Los Maya join PLAYNOW
Afro house and latin house with a tagline of their own, «Afro House con Tequila». A duo that releases, programmes its own series, ORYGEN, and has just launched a label, 2MINDS Records.
PLAYNOW announces the addition of Los Maya to its roster. They are the afro house and latin house project of Carlos Sanfulgencio and KPD, working from recognisable ground summed up in a tagline they have turned into an identity: «Afro House con Tequila». Afro-rooted percussion, Latin melody and a reading of the floor aimed at the temperature of the room rather than technical display.
A project that has changed scale
What arrives at PLAYNOW is not the duo of two years ago. In recent months Los Maya have taken three steps that change their dimension: they have launched their own label, 2MINDS Records, co-founded with Yas Cepeda, also on the roster, with its own website and identity; they have turned their party into a named series, ORYGEN, with an independent manifesto and website; and they have set their catalogue in order with a first release on the new label, «El Beso», with Alba Dreid.
That structure, label plus series plus catalogue, is what an agency needs to programme them with judgement: a project with a clear position from the first minute of the set and with tools of its own to sustain it.
Six releases and more than two million plays
Their catalogue is deliberately short. With only six releases to their name they gather close to 28,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, an unusual ratio explained by the long life of their first significant title. These are the milestones that map their path:
- 2022. «Solita» is released on «Redolent Tribes Vol. 2», the compilation curated by DJ Chus for Redolent, and has since passed two million plays on Spotify.
- 2023. «Luna», with Mathieu Ruz, and «Won't Stop», alongside Mr. V, both on Wired Records. The collaboration with Mr. V, one of the historic voices of New York house, remains the weightiest entry in their discography.
- 2024. «We Dance», with Rion S, again on Wired Records.
- 2025. «Can't Stop», with Ron Carroll and Crusy, on Make The Girls Dance Records. In December they also deliver the guest mix for episode 263 of Redolent Radio, introduced by the label as a «Latin House journey».
- 2026. «El Beso», with Alba Dreid, on 2MINDS Records.
In venues, their most consistent presence is the «Friday Nights at Panthera» series at Panthera in Madrid, with confirmed dates in June and October 2025.
ORYGEN: «not an event, a series»
What sets them apart is not only the catalogue, it is the programming. ORYGEN by Los Maya is their own party, with an independent identity and website, and a manifesto that turns its back on the usual format: «ORYGEN is not an event, it is a series». Each episode changes venue and line-up, Madrid works as the base, and the motto, «Your Origin Is Here», points back to the tribal roots of the genre. Episode I took place at Lula Club, on Gran Vía 54, alongside HVMZA and Chris Estrella, also on the PLAYNOW roster. Episode II is in preparation.
