NODUS joins PLAYNOW: Turkish house back in the underground

PLAYNOW is pleased to announce that NODUS has joined its roster. Behind the name is Turkish DJ and producer Serdar Ayyıldız, who built this project as a deliberate return to house and tech house after a wide-reaching career in Turkish dance and ethnic pop. NODUS is not a debut: it is a decision to go back to the underground he came from, and to do it with a catalogue of his own.

Istanbul and a decision to return underground

Serdar Ayyıldız was shaped by Istanbul, a city that sits where Anatolia, the Balkans and the Mediterranean meet. That position is not a biographical footnote: it is the raw material of his current catalogue, built on melodies and time signatures he has known all his life and that almost nobody else is taking onto a dancefloor today.

Before NODUS, his work circulated for years through Turkish labels such as Arpej Yapım, Yeni Dünya Müzik, Moonster, Cayman and Cafe De Anatolia, in a dance and ethnic pop register that gave him considerable reach. The NODUS project began with the choice to step away from that circuit and return to where he started, making music written for the floor rather than for radio.

Anatolian folk material taken onto the dancefloor

The most recognisable trait of NODUS is what he does with traditional repertoire. He rewrites Anatolian, Balkan and Mediterranean folk material in club form —«Misirlou», «Balkani», «Aman», «Gitano», «Rakkas», «Ay Soare»— without turning it into decoration. These are the milestones that map the project:

2022. «Turo Tech» is released on Toolroom Trax, the Toolroom imprint.
2023. «Ay Soare» arrives on his own label, Houseyounite, opening the run of folk reworkings that now defines the project.
2024. «Rakkas» lands on Make The Girls Dance, four dates follow at ADE in Amsterdam and he plays Misericordia Club in Madrid on 16 November.
2025. «Gitano» and «Famy Aya» on Make The Girls Dance, «Misirlou» on Houseyounite and a return to ADE with his own label programming.
2026. «Aman» and «Balkani» on Houseyounite and «Dum Tak» on Make The Girls Dance, plus two Ibiza dates: Hï Ibiza with Make The Girls Dance in July and the Alleanza Showcase at Tomorrowland Store Ibiza in August.

Houseyounite, Soul Fabrik and Istanbul DJ Academy

NODUS is also CEO and founder of three companies: Houseyounite, the label and promoter that releases much of his catalogue; Soul Fabrik; and Istanbul DJ Academy. For an agency that profile is a practical advantage. An artist who releases, programmes and teaches works to a calendar of his own: he knows what he wants to put out, when and with whom, and he reads a line-up from both sides of the table.
